Rebecca Taylor, Award Winning Personal Branding Photographer

PART 1: BEHIND THE SCENES

  1. Why do you love what you do? Because of the transformational experience for my clients. When they’re first confronted with being in front of my camera they're intimidated and a lot of nerves rise. The energy and coaching I provide releases the fears and tension, so the client can let go of self judgement and be themselves.

There’s a trust built between myself and that person, so when I witness the client’s transformation, it gives me such a buzz.

  2. What’s your greatest joy in life? In my experience as a mother, business founder and photographer, I find joy happens in the moments in-between.

In raising two young children, I remember the most joyful moments happened in seeing them hold hands or building legos together.

During a photoshoot, it brings me joy to capture the unplanned moments where my client has dropped their guard and allowed fun thoughts to enter their mind. This is when I see their essence shining through. At that moment, I feel just as lit up as they are.

  3. What are your leadership values? Authenticity, connection, joy, purpose and freedom.

Freedom to me though, isn’t about free time, it’s about being free to be yourself. To not live in the land of ‘shoulds’ and a life of no regrets. Own what you want rather than what others expect of you. Freedom then ties into authenticity.

Authenticity, for me, is removing the barriers or stories that are passed down from generations and society around how you ‘should’ be or what you ‘should’ be doing or how you ‘should’ be living your life.

Joy is at the heart of living a good life. And as most of our waking hours are spent at work, I’ve always made it my mission to find work that I enjoy and am passionate about. I also get pleasure from bringing joy to people’s lives. I’m deliberate about making my photoshoot experiences playful and fun.

PART 2: LEADERS LANE

  1. How have you found your voice in business? Honouring my gifts and understanding the value I bring to my clients is key. This liberated me from second guessing and allowed my authentic voice to shine through.

The more I’ve tapped into my purpose, the more I’ve released any need for perfection and allowed creative expression to flow freely.

In business, the more revealed different layers of myself, the more I’ve connected with people and established new partnerships.

  2. One tip for others to find or master their personal brand voice?
There’s two parts to my answer. Finding your voice is a journey of understanding what matters to you. Establishing your voice comes through knowing who you are. Sharing who you are and your stories.

Mastering comes from the ‘doing’. It’s a constant practice of overcoming the fear of judgement and allowing yourself to express yourself in different ways.

To build a legacy brand, you have to be able to sustain it. To have the energy for it, it has to be authentic. That’s why I love personal branding, it hones in on why you even want to be doing what you’re doing.

Overall, trust that you know enough. Trust you have something worthwhile to share and those who need to hear it, will.

  3. What do you wish you knew before you grew into your leadership shoes? Understanding there is no wrong or right way to be successful, make your money or create your legacy. Your way is the right way. Carve your own path, stay in your own lane and trust that it will take you where you want to go.

PART 3: YOUR LEGACY

  1. What matters in life compared to what you thought mattered when you started your career/business? All the things that mattered then, matter to me now. It’s just now I trust myself more and I’m not afraid to express my ideas and thoughts knowing that it can have a positive ripple effect.

I’ve come from a background where my creativity was nurtured, however I have seen a dismantling of this in society and the education system. I now see that I can be a role model and advocate to other creative entrepreneurs (or those who aspire to be) on creating abundance by doing creative work.

  2. One person who inspires you to be a better leader? The people who show up unapologetically sharing their vision, mission and story without fear of rejection or ridicule. At their core they know the people who need to hear it, will value what they have to say. And they do.

I think highly of leaders like Michelle Obama and Brene Brown, but it’s my trailblazing client’s in Australia who inspire me most.

  3. What legacy do you want to leave behind? To continue my work in helping women to feel confident with being seen so they can step fully into who they are and express that in whatever way feels good.

My legacy is also wrapped up in exposing the value and power of Creativity in business. Not just for the purpose of sparking new ideas but to allow more people to freely share their unique voice and expression.
