What do you get when you cross a mechanic & copywriter?

Here’s the third Leaders Lane Interview. A 3-part chat with accomplished leaders on how they found their voice and grew their leadership presence, in hopes their wisdom connects you deeper to yours. Embody what you love, and pass it on.
Peter Reginella, Copywriter & Email Marketing Strategist

PART 1: BEHIND THE SCENES
Why do you love what you do? I’m a bit selfish about this, but it’s purely for self expression. I enjoy writing, and using the creativity I used to use as a kid to create visual art to paint with my words now. But other than that, I love writing in a way that moves people to take the actions they need to take to better their lives, and live their dreams.
What’s your greatest joy in life? My greatest joy in my life is my kids. Everything I do, is to create and give them the life I wish I had growing up. They’re my guiding start whenever I’m having a tough time.
What are your leadership values? I would never ask anyone to do anything I wouldn’t do myself. Before I got into writing and marketing, I was a mechanic for over 20 years and even managed several dealerships where I was the lead technician, and had to manage over 12 people in the back. I was always a lead by example kind of person. Or at least that’s the way I meant it :)
PART 2: LEADERS LANE

How have you found your voice in business? I came into what I would call my voice after 2 years of writing, and just not caring what anyone cared about it. I decided to become more me. Which to my surprise, resulted in me getting the kind of results I was looking for in the first place.
One tip for others to find or master their personal brand voice?
The phrase “write drunk and edit sober” remains true, in my opinion. Now, in saying that, I don’t mean get plastered and write… but, what I would do is write in a way that would almost get you in trouble first, and then edit it back so you won’t offend anyone. When you do this, you’ll tend to attract the kind of people that would resonate with you fully, and repel those who were never going to anyways. Don’t be afraid to be the real you… someone will always be upset with something you did… just forget about them and build your tribe. What do you wish you knew before you grew into your leadership shoes? That it’s as fulfilling as it has been. If I knew this years ago… I would have never spent as much time building someone else's dream rather than building my own.
PART 3: YOUR LEGACY

One person who inspires you to be a better leader? My Nonno (Italian Grandfather). He was the patriarch of our family, and the main pillar of my life. Since his passing, I’ve always kept something of his with me at (almost) all times. I’m named after him, I look up to him, and I wish to be just like he was.
What legacy do you want to leave behind? I want to leave this world knowing that my grandchildren's grandchildren are taken care of because of the things I did… and not afraid to live the life they want to. Life’s too short to do otherwise.
